' Get some Air in your lungs and Run... '
That is exactly what Mirror's Edge Catalyst is all about, a reboot to a franchise with so much potential. Does it live upto it...? well read on... :D
Parkour, a way of life to some is moving around the world seamlessly interacting with the environment as you do so. To make a complete game simply based on it requires guts and EA Dice sure have come a long way despite rebooting it have added their own touch and feel to the game. Frostbite 3 makes the game look eye candy stunning visuals, I am surprised with all the whites and reds, games in general like to adopt dark colors to do the exact opposite does make the world look different. Having not played the original game I am pretty sure my first experience with this crazy parkour ride has been pretty good to say the least.
Faith Connors a girl who is abandoned young because of her parents demise is taken in by Noah a fahter figure of sorts who raises her as his own. In time though she gets caught by Kruger Sec as a wanted runner and the game begins with her release.Mirror's edge is more of a learn the story through her actions kinda thing you are simply thrown in the open world and asked to take a leap of faith into the game , it does work for the most part. Gabriel Kruger controls Glass through an artificial stimulus known as Reflection. He uses it to induce emotions forcing people against their free will making them more susceptible to K Sec.
A group of outlaws fight against it headed by Noah called the runners. Well first off the characters are well meh not all likable, they have their moments especially Plastic Faith's friend and pro hacker, the rest all are sad and repulsive maybe becasue a city like glass demands it ? Still the real charm to the game is Faith, she is a quirky teen girl who can do insane parkour moves and traverse the city like it's her play ground. Combat seems a bit clanky but movement and environment more than make up for it. To travel this amazing city of glass as Faith is something truly magnificent. Faith has a set of skills related to her parkour abilities, combat and her gear all upgradable she just keeps getting better as the game moves forward.
The time trails and the deliveries are all methods to learn the lore of the game, through the conversations we hear from the NPC's we kind of get an understanding of who Gabriel Kruger is and how the city of Glass came to be. Faith always has nightmares and it's always about her parents dying and she leaving behind her sister. Well the story does have it's moments, it's about Faith going against a Mega Corp known as glass, a company hellbent on enslaving all of humanity with faith in the middle of it.
Final Verdict : Mirror's Edge Catalyst satiates your inner quench for top notch parkour fun but there are glimpses of awesomeness, it leaves you wanting for more.
