' This is it Sully........... One Last Time '
So many emotions going through me, so many beautiful thoughts, I had such little patience, I really couldn't contain the excitement, having waited for well over 3 years. I have been there with Nathan Drake since the very beginning, every step of the way, back when Drake's fortune came out it felt like an attempt to take all these innovative ideas bought out by a team of creative people to life. El dorado went by Drake, Elena and Sully each beautifully fleshed out characters but was never quite into the story, a lot of things about them weren't explained. It felt like an attempt at getting the game right than the characters themselves.
Then came Uncharted 2 Honor Among Thieves a game that went out of the way to prove what Naughty Dog is actually capable of. Every single sequence in that game required praise, it challenged the physics of how a game work, the narrative style and the created the very crux of what Uncharted is all about. Then Uncharted 3 drake's deception came out, one of the finest PS3 games in existence, I still remember clinging on to my Sic Parvis Magna ring after watching the end credits. Well thanks to Amy Hennings departure and a host of other problems, Uncharted 4 has been in development for quite sometime now. In fact they had to re-shoot about 8 months of work thanks to Amy leaving.
Well Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley took up the challenge and I have to say they delivered on their promise. Uncharted 4 isin't like the other games in the franchise, neither are the characters. You can always sense a rush, an adrenaline into how the game takes you. In this game, well we get to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. It's the ending to our beloved hero, it's a testament to what obsession can bring to your life, it deals with several emotions, the intricacies of how to deal with each of them, who drake is as a person and how much he takes care of those around him.
From sully to Elena and of course Sam each play a pivotal part in shaping the final journey. A special shout out to all the voice actors I mean they people have lived their roles, Nolan North, Troy Baker, Emily Rose, Richard McGonagle, Warren Cole and Laura Bailey each of them have created something unique something amazing and the emotions they have added to their voice has given new dimensions to their character. The graphics look fresh, breathtaking and grandeur. A Thief's End is one of the few games to utilize the the PS4's capabilities to it's maximum extent. It really pushes the limit of what a game is capable of achieving, in terms of narrative mastery. The visuals are rich with color but also appear minimalistic, nothing shiny just right to make us look at it in awe but also believe it at the same time.
The story is like all Naughty Dog games takes the most preference. Nathan's older brother Sam returns to him at a time where Drake is at a point in his where he is trying to settle down move away from all the explosive action and live a normal life, he is married to Elena and then when Sam drags him into his problems drake's life get spun out of control. Henry Avery the legendary pirate captain's biggest treasure, a testament to who he truly was is what Sam and Drake chase after half way across the globe.
In terms of game play A thief's End makes up for every short comings the previous games had, the controls are both easy and realistic, Drake is much more aware of his surroundings, he also has two new tools at his disposal one being the rope which he sues to navigate the area in seamless fashion the other being a sharp dagger which he uses to hold on to slippery surfaces. The rope in particular is flawless in the way we use it , the swings and the momentum are just right. Combat has taken a different turn with the counter option completely removed instead the same button is sued to land minimalistic counters to help us scrape through the situation it kind of makes drake a more believable person and helps us be more careful with how we approach the enemy.
The weapon varieties offer a lot of options from RPG to machine gun and everything in between, one of the newer additions would be driving a vehicle around , a jeep in fact the mechanics are pretty solid and the game play is a lot more fun thanks to the several OMG moments in the game. The game is truly a spectacle, one that is filled with beautiful moments, a riveting plot and one big pirate treasure to contend with. Nathan Drake's final outing is a memory, a jewel in Naughty Dog's career and it is something every PlayStation fan can be proud about. Naughty Dog has Delivered.
