' Revenge Solves Everything '
Well to start things off I haven't had this fun playing a game in a long time. True to it's word Dishonored is simply the best thing that has happened to a series of stealth games which have been in the low for some time now.
Right from the moment you are accused of killing the empress of Dunwall Jessamine Kaldwin the game throws you into it's world of awe inspiring stealth mechanics . You are given lots of ways to complete your objective. Adopt a stealthier approach , take your time to observe the environment, get to know so backlore as to what is actually going on in this world of yours or simply go all out on a killing spree, take out any that stand in your way and become the most notorious assassin out there. Both these ways have their consequences, in fact the game gives you an open challenge to complete it without killing a single person, something which ticked me off as it was completely new to me ( had to take it ;) ) .
The game is filled with a lot of memorable characters from Emily the heir to the throne, Samuel the Boatman, Pierro the inventor, Calista the home keep, Granny Raags an old witch er and yeah let's not forget Daud the notorious assassin and the man responsible for the mess our hero Corvo Attano is in right now. Each of them play a pivotal role in shaping your journey through the game. To top it all is the Outsider an entity who gives his mark to a select few people and watch as to how they make use of this power.
Speaking of powers we have got an array of it at our disposal. Powers include 'Blink' swift trasportation beweeen two points, 'Bend time' giving us the ability to stop time , 'Possession' letting us possess both animals and humans alike and the 'Void Gaze' something which let's us see through walls and gives us information pertaining to enemy sightings. Also weapons are bountiful here , starting from a hand blade , crossbow, grenades and everything inbetween the path to violence is pretty tempting, I mean why go through all the trouble when you can simply hack your way out. Our morality is tested throughout the game through various sub plots and we can choose to act kind and show mercy some of which will reciprocate in unbelieveble ways or become a terro across the city, Merceless and leathal.... Don't expect mercy when you show none. Dishonored GOTY also comes with two exclusive DLC missions giving us a backstory as to who the Assassin Daud is, what his intensions were and what finally becomes of him.
' The Knife Of Dunwall '
It picks up right after the murder of the empress and Daud is stuck by a guilty consious and is trying to make amends. The outsider gives him one last chance and asks him to go after the name Delialah. It is pretty interesting as to how Arkane studios have thought about modifying the powers in interesting ways for Daud. For exaple Blink for daud freezes time around him for that particular period something Corvo doesn't have, also Daud does have the ability to posses living things but his other powers quite make up for it. Lore is also given up through random talks in the streets we just need to have the patience to listen to it unlike Corvo's heart which told us of the intensions of people around you. The story acts as gap bridger between the main plot to the Brigmore witches, which has Delialah Copperspoon , the all powerful witch as the primary antogonist.
' Brigmore Witches '
The brigmore witches further enhances upon the story that was presented to us in knife of Dunwall. Daud uncovers a plot by Delialah Copperspoon to take over Dunwall and races against time to put an end to it. This one is pure awesomeness, especially loved the endings and shows us how non lethality can be a huge asset to you if practised properly. That said the witches of Brigmore aren't by any means a cake walk even for someone like Daud they are some of the hardest enemies to face head on. That said you are also given the opportunity to outwit them, something which I enjoyed doing so. The DLC gives a fitting end to Daud's story as we see that our actions do finally catch up to us good or bad. The choice indeed was ours from the very beginning...... Does revenge indeed solve everything.... Something for me to ponder as the credits role.
