' They push, we push. One day we push hard enough for the light to break through '
The war for making the best FPS game out there is something companies face each and every year. Thanks to Activision revolutionizing FPS with Call Of Duty, many competitors have sprung up to face the challenge from Titanfall to battlefield, it is a constant race for the top spot. One thing is that people in general have gotten tired of sci-fi shooters, the same modern warfare, new technology , anti gravity and space fights, people have outgrown it in for a year or two now. insert Battlefield a game that started out as a competitor to COD but went on to carve a niche for itself. EA and DICE must be porud of what they have achieved for the first time in gaming history a game has surpassed it's toughest competition and stood tall as one o the greatest FPS in modern gaming history. Some might say Battlefield 1 doesn't deserve that much praise, that it's campaign is short and the multiplayer maps isn't always that inspiring. But to those I would say take a moment to let that sink in, we have a new man in town, he might not replace the king but he sure can stand up to who he truly is. A challenge DICE not only met but also exceeded.
Battlefield 1 is a different game in many ways, it doesn't have the usual campaign mode where we follow the life of a protagonist, a man who takes part in several military operations which take him to different places, the concept of multiple heros is not new to FPS but it is a trait long forgotten. BF1 shines here for it doe not have a single hero but in fact 5 different heroes, actually 4 heroes and a heroine. That aside we get to experience what is called war stories. As World War 1 raged on different people around the world were fighting different wars, they had different enemies, they fought for different reasons but the only thing that united all of them is war. 5 campaign stories. each follow the life of a soldier, their memories of the war, their part in it and how them and those around them are affected by it.
Be it through mud and blood or Nothing is written, each offer a unique gameplay experience. My personal favourite would be Friends In High Places, to drive an airplane from the 1900's and to experience the sheer thrill of air combat first hand is truly one of a kind. It is fun to look at how people perceive war is and what war truly is. The victor always stands to celebrate but those that fell, those that gave their lives for us to reach that place must never be forgotten, Battlefield 1 in a way is a tribute to all those people. Those men and women who gave thier lives for what they fought for. Thank you DICE history must never be forgotten. Next off is the weaponery , everything from guns to tanks has the very familiar feel of a World war 1 era weaponry. There are so many variations to each gun from rifles to machine guns, grenade launchers to mini rpg's each of them offer a unique combat experience. Horse riding feels genuinely fresh for having to use in combat, the lack of armor is more than made up with speed and agility.
The sheer thrill of riding on a horse back andd trail blazing across the battefield is a sight to behold. Multiplayer is nothing new to DICE, they are the ones that mastered it in Battlefield 4. What is new is the maps, although the spawn points can be off at times spawning all the way across the battlefield. But horse combat more than makes up for the short comings and offers the fun filled combat one would expect from a WW1 game. Frostbite engine renders everything with such astute dear than one begins to wonder why other companies never take note of just how beautiful games look when rendered in frostbite.
Kudos to DICE for giving exceptional importance to music, from the menu, in-game cutscenes and all out combat music, battlefield 1 has succeeded in so man ways to bring the player much more closer to realism and in a way makes the game all the more relatable.
Final Verdict : Battlefield 1 comes out with heavy expectations and doesn't dissapoint, Despite a short campaign it stands out from the rest of the FPS crowd to truly shine as an example of what amazing story telling and nail biting combat can do when they come together. Thank you DICE , 3 cheers to you ^_^
