' What lies beyond the abyss, it is your destiny to forge '
Back when the PlayStation 4 launched Sony came up with the biggest announcement ever made that Bungie is gonna make a game for their next gen console. Fast forward two years and here we are with 2 DLC's released for the game and met with critical acclaim. Destiny didn't start out to be the great game we all were promised. In fact my review would have been a lot different had I only played the game. That said Destiny the Taken King is one of the most satisfying shooters of 2015.
The game is an example of what an independent developer like Bungie can achieve if given the chance. The year one or rather the standalone game is strictly multiplayer only, it consists of a vague storyline and depends heavily on a lot of players coming together to finish objectives and fill plot holes. Then we have the taken king a standalone which forever changed how the game works and what bungie is actually capable of.
Be it story, music, combat or player customization bungie scores in every possible way. The game in itself take place in the future where thanks to something called the traveller humanity florishes and in turn we are tasked with protecting the way of the light ( the traveller ) from certain destruction. The game heavily relies on online multiplayer with many layers of gameplay such as strikes, defense and story mode all of it intertwined and offer a satisfying experience. The taken king expands on the main story arc with us trying to face the king of darkness Oryx in one final battle as he is out for revenge against those that destroyed his son. Three major classes namely the Titan, warlock and hunter each resembling those of soldier, mage and a rogue with super techy weapons.
Armor customization is amazing with several layers of durability and appearance available. We as players report to one central place called the tower, a hub for trade and where all players can meet up. Merchants and weekly updates are delivered through the tower and all the goodies can be bought here. Destiny took multiplayer to the next level with the Sparrow league, a game of hovercraft racing with fellow gamers. Leave it to bungie to come up with such inventive takes for multiplayer gaming. All in all destiny lives up to all the hype it ever created, thanks to some solid post game DLC.
Final Verdict : A solid game worth your time, get it with the DLC or not at all. Destiny the taken king is proof that the developers listen to their fans, thank you Bungie ^_^
