" It's Time To Rock n' Roll "
It's not very often that a Real Time Strategy game (RTS) gets to make a impact in the gaming world. At least not with the advent of FPS games which give all the thrill and grill of having a battle.
That said it's been quite long since a good RTS game came out. The last I remember was Command And Conquer Tiberium Wars but that was quite a few years back . Command And Conquer in particular have garnered a huge fan base thanks to a classic games namely the Dune series, the Red Alert series and the Tiberium series. Each of these games have gone to represent the best of RTS with huge base building, epic battles and even live action sequences to support all of it. Red Alert 3 is the newest one to join the list of these proud series of games.
The story traces back to the final moments of Red Alert 2 where the Allies have defeated the soviets and the Premier has fled moscow. In a desparate attempt to win the war the soviets take an extreme measure by going back in time and killing Albert Einstein the man responsibile for the allies superior technology, coming back in time the the soveits find out that despite their succees against the allies a new 3rd superpower is born in the name of The Rising Sun. They launch a full scale war on both the allies and soviets thereby kick starting RedAlert 3.
With 3 factions the game is rich and diverse in it's gameplay. Despite this is a first time a Command and Conquer game has come to the PS3, the intutive controls and the gameplay is spot on. Each factions vary in the way their base is constructed although the ability to give commands is through the command wheel. While the Soviet feature Raw Power and the Rising Sun have some of the most advanced technologies , the allies are a crisp combination of both. Each faction features 10 missions with the story being cannon for all three of them so it doesn't matter which order you play them but for all intents and purposes it is advisable to start with the Soviets, then move on to the allies and finish up with the Rising Sun. The graphics are crisp and feature HD textures and is a delight to play them on the HDMI of the PS3.
Live action sequences inbetween games is a welcome return with a variety of characters in play starting from Tim Curry to Gemma Akinston and Jenny Mcnathy. Each of them play their roles with such grace that you tend to enjoy the role of the characters as much as the people playing it. It was good to see Tanya again ;) .
Multiplayer is in the form of Co-Op where it is possible to play single player missions along with friends. In the absence of which a NPC co-op commander is assigned to you. The game also features some amazing sound tracks such as the Hell March v 3.0 which remakes the original hell march and several others to the credit of composers Frank Klepacki, James Hannigan, Timothy Michael Wynn and Mikael Sandgren. The in-game theatrics and slap stick comedy are some of the elements the series is famous for.
The Final Verdict, Red Alert 3 does what it does best giving us insane hours of action packed, fun filled, nerve wrecking RTS gameplay at it's best.
